HTS Classification

What product do you need classified?

Tell us what it is. Kanon determines the correct 10-digit HTSUS code, evaluates every applicable note, and produces a full audit-ready Classification Support Package.

Be specific — include material, size, or model if known.
More detail means a more defensible classification.
Deterministic · GRI-compliant · Audit-ready · CBP defensible

How the HTS classification tool works

An HTS code is decided by what a product is, what it is made of, and what it does, read against the legal text of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). Kanon takes the description you give it and evaluates the candidate headings under the General Rules of Interpretation in their required order, applying the section and chapter notes that govern each heading before it reaches a 10-digit code.

What to include in your description

Give the product's function, its materials (and which material or component predominates, if there are several), how and where it is used, and how it is imported: complete or unassembled, alone or as part of a set. Those facts decide close calls such as essential character under GRI 3(b).

What you get back

The result is a 10-digit HTSUS code with the reasoning behind it recorded in a Classification Support Package: the product facts relied on, the headings and notes considered, and the reasoning at each step. The same product facts evaluated against the same tariff schedule version always produce the same code. Classification remains the importer's legal responsibility under reasonable care; for certainty on a specific product, a CBP binding ruling is the formal route.
